I'm at total loss here. I've been running just fine until August 2017 I felt a pain in my inner left lower leg. I took about two weeks off then came back to run (20-30 mpw) and then the pain came back. I would be fine for one or two weeks then the pain would return. This cycle continued for months but I ran just fine through February-March earlier this year (40-50 mpw) despite pain, it was tolerable and some days it was worse other days I barely feel it. It would hurt mostly when I wasn't running, like if I'm sitting down it's this head-achey throbbing pain that I swear it's on the tibia. The pain never got so bad I would limp but I stopped being consistent and by May it got bad enough that it's really ruining running for me. It's hard to enjoy my runs with it.
The thing is, my first thought was the possibility of a stress fracture/reaction but I was running just fine despite the pain earlier this year and my leg would hurt more if I came back after 1-2 days off than if I ran a few days in a row, until a week or two then it would worsen and I'd stop since it was pretty bad. I can't find a tender spot in my inner tibia. Right now I'm sitting typing this and my leg will be fine, no pain at all then it'll just randomly throb in that area (inner tibia) for a few moments. It's really annoying and it's ruining my training and has been so for over a year now. I never knew shin splints could last a year but I don't know what else I can do. I can hop on the damn thing many times and feel no pain either yet if I run it will either hurt or not hurt. It's so confusing. Any suggestions? Any help would be highly appreciated!
