That was a good read, thanks. look forward to Des the ultra runner in a few years
Good piece. In the interview she did recently with RW, she mentioned that she hadn't done speedwork in the 13 years she'd been with the Hansons, which kind of surprised me.

That's exactly what I was thinking. She said she didn't know how she'd do and I thought to myself, "I bet she dominates."
I'd like to raise like $300k and have Kipchoge do an ultra.
A few weeks ago, when Jonathan told me he wanted to do something on Linden, I asked him, "Who is coaching her and he said her college, I laughed and said, "Wait she sucked in college. She went back to him?"
I was saying it in a lighthearted way (tone is often lost on text/email). When I coached, one of the guys who loved me the most was a runner who was super accomplished in HS, did next to nothing under me (and my replacement as well) but said I was amazing. If you treat people well, being a coach is an amazing job.

Cool story, bro.
I read the article.
Is Linden that delusional to think that the only reason that she does not beat top Africans is that she can't drop a big negative split?
hey rojo, just keep in mind that the more threads and articles about trail/ultras races you have on the site, the more interest that will get from the site's visitors (which include elite runners like Desi).
and when more western elites start doing ultras, more sponsors will show up. and who follows that $$$? the kenyans!
so what I'm saying is...you should learn more about ultras and start posting articles and results to major ultra and trail races.

You know you're a great runner when letsrun calls you delusional for wanting to be competitive.
No matter what Des Linden does from here, she already is a legend.

+1
Best of wishes for Des her on out. People may criticize her or a number of reasons (and maybe rightfully so), but I have to admire her for being bold and outspoken. The sport needs more athletes like her.

She ran 8:51 3000 indoors and 15:08 & 31:37 on the Track. Does anyone really believe that she ran those times without Hansons prescribing any speed? I don’t.

To answer your question - Nope.
A great write up. Touched on all the major points. Really enjoyed it.
If it aint broke, don't fix it.

Assuming you don't run, or at least not competitively. The drive to be better is usually what separates the elite from the masses.

I don't buy it either..Hanson's are known for emphasis on speed work.
But it sounds like while she is part of the team she never trained with them so sounds like she really didnt train with them at all. So kind of wrong to throw shade their way.

Am I missing something? If you are with the leaders at halfway and they negative split and you don't that's pretty clearly why you lost.
she annoys me.

Great read. Time will tell if it was a positive change for her or not.
