how is it some random guy on the team is better at pacing the leaders of this race than the leaders themselves?
does this coach specifically designate one guy to train to be a pacer? what preparation and training does he do to fulfill his pacing duties? how does he become so much better at pacing a race than the typical runner pacing himself? how can he know what pace is best for his teammate without knowing what his teammate is feeling? if he is getting instruction from his teammate during the race, why not cut out the middleman and pace yourself? why would the fastest guy on the team want some random guy controlling his pace?
this all seems very weird to me
Lol, you must be new to running. Or you’re a parent of a runner... this is totally something my dad would say. He’s never ran but he’s the expert on training and racing strategy.
In seriousness, I can understand how it seems weird.. but it’s just easier to follow a pacer than to set the pace yourself. If you’ve never personally expierenced just zoning out and following the pacer or the pack, you’ll never fully understand.
