I bet he went home devastated.
I bet he went home devastated.
And he will still return and be 3-4 minutes faster than the next fastest American marathoner.

What is the over/under on Rupp making it to Tokyo with this situation?
Atlanta trials are almost exactly 18 months away. April 23rd, 2018.
He has less than 18 months because he needs to qualify first. Or, is he allowed to run the trails as legacy?
He’s already qualified under multiple criteria, and the Trials are in February. Come on, guys.

How have we made it 4 pages in without a "Ruppture" pun?
POTD
No 4. His wife is pregnant.
Exactly right. I’ve had it done on both heels with one having more damage than the other. Recovery depends on what PCT of the tendon has to be detached and how much damage was done to the Achilles. I have two screws in the right (one year recovery) and three in the left (two year recovery). My right is better than ever but the left still gets sore at the attachment. I was plagued with Achilles issues my entire life until surgery.

The real news here is Rupp has been laid at least four times more than all Letsrunners combined.
fixed
I agree, it's a gamble. Seems like with you could address most of this with custom shoes until your career is over.
And if you are going to do it, why not go to an orthopedic surgeon instead of a podiatrist?

Best post I've seen on LetsRun all year. +1.
Cheers

Not to worry, RoJo. The fact that you remain a Trump supporter shows that you have a higher pain threshold than normal people. I suppose you can take some dubious pride in that.
As opposed to corrupt lying Hillary. Yeah, I'll take Trump.

Do people not realize Haile G had surgery all the time?
According to the NY Times, Haile G had Haglunds and had achilles surgery in November of 2000. While he never won another global title on the track, he was back competing and winning bronze at Worlds in early August.
According to the IAAF, Haile had another Achilles surgery in September of 2004. By the end of January of 2005, he was running and winning a half marathon in 61:46. It's true that he didn't run London that year due to Achilles issues but he won Amsterdam inthe fall in 2:06:20.

With Rupp out until the Olympic Trials we're going to get an early peek at the void that's going to be left in American marathoning once Rupp retires. It ain't going to be pretty.

Fool. There is a time limit for qualifying for the OT trials. Are 2018 times allowed to qualify?
I think everyone is just bummed because we know Galen only realistically has one more shot at the olympics to medal. If he was 25 it might be a different story. Yeah he could come back from this and do well but there is also real possibility he won’t. But hey maybe the rest and taking a big break will freshen him up a bit.
Remind me what shoes did Mo Farah run in when he beat Galen at Chicago? What shoes did Kipchoge run the world record in?

2020 Trials qualifying window opened over a year ago.
Why are you talking that much if you have nothing interesting to say ? Yes his wife is expecting a baby, yes he could come back, yes he could not come back, we know.

All members of the 2016 marathon team have automatically qualified for the trials, so Rupp, Meb, Ward, Flanagan, Linden, and Cragg don't need to run at all.
