Bekele wont retire as long as he makes money
Bekele wont retire as long as he makes money
Cyclists in the 90s used to put on 10kg in the off season only to drop back to race weight in season every year. You can find "overweight" (relative to race weight) picture of many of the greats - just compare the picture of Riis at the top of the article to the one in the preview. As a cyclist, you can still train just as much if you're not at race weight - for a runner, that would be difficult.
Another possibility for his DNF is he suddenly had to crap his pants and walking was the only way to stop it. He was walking kind of funny.
It was sad how they made him walk all the way back to wherever, no car or anything to get him.

Kenny asked Jos to get off the bike so he could go passenger and get a lift back to the hotel, Jos told him to feck off and that he was a fat lazy prick who needs to get his act together so the walk back would do him good and give him time to contemplate his future and decide if he wants to get organised and serious again.
We all know why Jos can talk to Kenny like that.

if Kenenisa doped, why would he not take something to lose fat
Drugs are the answer to everything for you morons.
Smack on the money: I am not from the US, I haven't taken any medicine in the last 12 years and I think doping ruins the sport.
Bekele has the physical talent, but doesn't seem motivated to take on the grind of serious marathon preparation.
It's a game of hard-nosed, drawn-out preparation that dictates a lifestyle. Kipchoge's spartan recipe will maximize your results. But without the will to hew to that doctrine, even Bekele can't hold with today's marathon greats.
So, whatever happened to old boy stepping on a stone? Jos strikes me as prone to spinning yarns.
