What does Rupp have to do with "the best runners"?

The world record in 1975 was 2:09.12, so Drayton was less than a minute off the WR. Had a full-time job, no sponsors.
Very happy Levin’s got it, but today WR is: 2:01.39
Dumb take^.
In 1975, the "world" was not seriously contesting the marathon and chasing times. The record was held by some British guy called Ian Thompson.
"he was 4th today behind a trio of nobodies."
Yeah, nobodies. Hahaha.

#3 Today's run kind of reminded me of what Rupp did in Chicago last year to some extent. Levins looked pretty calm/relaxed during the race and is a somewhat taller marathon runner and picked it up towards the end to beat the people around him
Cam Levins is a taller runner? Cam's listed at 5'10" and 143#. Galen Rupp is listed at 5'11" and Mo Farah is at 5'9". You make no sense at all.
Aw, c'mon! Cam's 'fro counts for a few inches, and it retains heat. ;)
With marijuana (extremist liberal agenda) "legal" in Canada now (not really because it's still illegal in the US) how can we be sure that Levins is clean?? Will he freely be able to go back and forth between the US and Canada as a drug mule?
When will president Trump force Canada to repeal the drug act? This is extremely dangerous for the US and for the sport of track and field!
So much for the tolerant left.

Africans won three straight Olympics in the 60s. They were "in the game" long before 1975.

you mean gary lough coached farah
Correct.
Eric Houle at SUU coached Levins to a better marathon than Salazar could.
Gary Lough coached Farah to a better marathon than Salazar could.
Levins never did a marathon nor attempted marathon training under Salazar.
Farah's marathon in London in 2014 was only for appearance. It was well known that he didn't do much marathon specific training during that build up because he was going back to the track. He trains solely for the marathon full time now.

This morning, in the biggest marathon in Canada, in the biggest city and media capital of the country, Levins beat the 2:10:09 record, which has stood since 1975.
He will be the front page of every sports section tomorrow morning, and every sports show for the text two days.
In HOKA hat, HOKA shirt, HOKA armbands, HOKA half-tights, and HOKA shoes.
Disloyal Nike loses another one.
Also, he seems to have done better with his new coach (himself?) than under Salazar, who did nothing but get him injured.
This guy did well. All the while a few years ago the idiots on lets run were getting down on this himcause he was running 150 miles per week. Guess what? All of that paid off. He probably couldn't run fast track times but this bruh was preparing for a marathon little did he knew. I see great things from him in the future. He's starting out faster than Rupp did.
Good job CAM!!!!

Yes El Keniano just went home with pie on his face.
wrong...Clayton's 2:08:33 in 1969...c'mon man...
I had no idea that Cam was 43. Or that there was a specific Can record for that age.

If you think that Ethiopian and Kenyan athletes were involved with time-trial marathoning in 1975, to an extent remotely comparable to the present day, you are completely ignorant of the sport. Go to bed.
To say "Drayton was only one minute of the WR, Levins is off by eight minutes" shows no awareness of the fact that the "WR chase" back then, such that it was, was basically the Special Olympics (TINY involvement of African runners in the sport). Big whoop, Drayton came within a minute of some other caucasian who barely did anything else. Levins is running in something called "the modern era."
As a fellow Canadian I send congrats to Cam! ???
Anyone know the fastest debut by a non-African?
These are off the top of my head from IAAF profile.
Ritz and Moen are both over 2:10
A.Salazar: 2:09:41 - (N.Y. was that race a bit short?)
D. Clayton: 2:09:37 is this true?
C.Levins: 2:09:22
A.Fujiwara: 2:08:40
J.Robinson: 2:08:26 (Cam beat him today by 26 secs)
R.Hall 2:08:24
M.Fujiwara: 2:08:12 (still his PB)
Ya i know, who cares! Just curious.

You cannot.
You’ve been schooled.
Why are you referring to another poster as "You" when you are talking about something that I wrote?
You are correct, Zane has not gone under 2:10. I didn't bother to look up his stats, only remembering his sub 60 half (another time that Americans don't often run).
You really care a lot about my including the Robertsons. How about if I say that Americans other than Rupp aren't anywhere near 2:10 and that is frustrating. Do you disagree with that?

American Khalid Khannouchi debuted with 2:07:10 at Chicago Marathon in 1997.
Alan Culpepper (USA) also went 2:09:41
Doesn't that also beat the open record, not just the M40-44 record?
Levins made more money than the winner of the race? 40K+6K =46K for a non podium finish in a non major race. If the Canadian record wasn't ancient and set by a former superstar marathoner. This wouldn't be front page news at all. By the way does this "win" get Levin inducted into the National Jewish Sports Hall of Fame...https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/National_Jewish_Sports_Hall_of_Fame_and_Museum

farah 2:08:21 is missing from you're list and khannouchi was Moroccan at the time
