I’m a 31M and just signed up to run next years Sydney Marathon on 15th September. I’m aiming for a sub 3.30 time and given my current level of fitness and ability (which I’ll summarise below), will I be able to get fit enough to achieve my target time by the time the marathon comes?
So I grew up a runner, my dad was a runner, and I used to run quite a bit when I was younger. I ran 3 marathons a few years back when I was in my early 20s, with a PB of around 3.35-40.
I haven’t run at all in the last 5 or so years, give or take the odd few weeks of motivation before I give up. Over the last year I’ve run sporadically and got my run times to just under 23mins for 5k and 50mins for 10k within a few weeks.
I’ve been told to exercise more to help with my anxiety and depression, and to try and help motivate myself I’ve taken the plunge and decided to sign up for another marathon (I don’t like doing things by half).
I’ll be working full time with long commutes, so I’m thinking 2-3 short evening runs during the week, and slowly building up longer runs on the weekend.
Is my target time achievable in the time frame? Has anyone else done something similar, or can give training tips?
Thanks in advance guys!
