so im 34 and my son is 10. a few years ago when my son was 8 he got into running for 7 months. we trained and his best 5k time was 23:43 mine was low 25s. he fell out of wanting to run and I didn't push. he's little more mature now and wants to really give it a go. we have only been back at it for a month. the other day on a test he ran high 23s and I ran 24:30. I am 5 foot 10 193 lbs. I was 200 a month ago. I know there is no crystal ball but he wants to get fast and I want to be able to hang with him. we have been running 2 miles as fast as we can. half mile intervals. 3 miles. 100 yard wind sprints. all kinds of different workouts. is it possible for us to train for 2 years and run a sub 20 min 5k? full disclosure I am not pushing him at all. he is the one that wants to keep getting faster. I ran in high school my best time was 22s but I did not take it seriously. any advice from someone with my body type and got to sub 20 5k? and for someone that will be 11 in 6 months should I be pushing him at all? and at his 23:43 time 2 years ago he's grown alot. should he be able to get in the 21s in the next 6 months with proper training? any and all advice is appreciated
