We had a post xc season mile time trial. I was expecting to break 5 minutes considering I ran a 5:02 during my junior year of track. After running 17:07 in my last cross country meet of my senior year, I ran a 5:08 today.
Now I will say that going into the race I was sort of sick. I have been developing a sort of cold and it hit me pretty hard today. I was feeling sleepy with nose stuffed up and a cough all day.
Not only that but i had a good meet last Saturday where I ran the 17:07, we then had another cross country meet on Tuesday where I ran a great race once again. The day after we did a recovery run at 6:30 pace on our hilly grassy home cross country course. And then today was the time trial.
I don’t understand I began to feel lactic acid after the first 200 meters tbh. It just really annoys me because I worked so hard over the summer running the 3rd highest mileage of anyone on our team and someone I am faster than, or thought I wasn’t faster than up until today, ran a 4:59 and he broke 5 for the first time today.
He ran 17:26 for 3 miles at the meet where I. Ran 17:07 and I’ve beat him by almost 20 seconds in every race this season. I also was faster than him in the mile during junior year of track as well.
Not only that, but a FRESHMAN who runs like 18:00 for 3 miles ran a 5:07 and beat me. It’s so humiliating and I feel really discouraged right now thinking that I’m now slower than I was during track.
How do these guys that are way slower than me normally suddenly show up and one of them breaks 5 and the other beats me by a seconds when I run over a minute faster than him in 3 miles. Was it because I was sick? lack of recovery days? Coming off of two xc races in the last 5 days?
