Hi I am a sophomore in high school and for the past couple of weeks I have been struggling in my workouts and races. I trained consistently for the first time in the summer (peaking around 55 miles a week and playing pickup basketball 5 days a week after running) and ran a 8 second pr in the first time trial from 4:54
to 4:46 and that pr was in the end of the track season. However my freshman track season I was diagnosed with severe iron defiency with a ferritin level of 6 (I am a male) and I didn’t finish my pills until around July. So back to my season, I started very strong but gradually got worse and worse where I honestly don’t think I could break 5 in the mile and I’m close to last in my training group in workouts. I have a couple theories why this may be. 1st: I have been taking daily iron pills after my prescription has finished (not everyday but maybe 3-4 times a week) but with smaller dosages about 30 mg of elemental iron so too much iron? Another reason could be that my mileage dropped during the season (40-45 and sometimes 35) and I lost fitness. Honestly I do not know but please help, thanks.
