Interesting you bring this up as I plan on Running the OKC Memorial Marathon as my first road marathon this spring. I picked it because I grew up in the area and personally knew people affected/killed. It will also be a "hometown" crowd even though I have not lived in Oklahoma for over a decade. Anyhow not sure whether I will run faster (is not a super fast course and the weather can totally suck) but it does have meaning to me which is motivating.
Careful bro i ran like crap there. I did have an older couple (the man was in one of the bombings) come up to after the race and start crying because they were so touched that we were running so hard for them. They came up to me as I was looking for a college friend to say "screw this race lets get drunk."
Was a pretty touching race though. I liked the talk and moment of silence before the race. Pretty congested on the start though it seemed like.
