No, Leonard Korir should brake 2:10 easily when he moves up to the marathon.

For sure.
Jamin King Marathon debut 2019. 2:09:49. You heard it here first.

Only if the carrot dangling in front of him is a Ukrainian bride named Taya.
Dathan Ritzenhein already did so in 2012. Next.
Give JW a solid year of 'thon training and he will have a solid shot at it.
Probably a few WCAP guys who could do it soon. Won't crash the boards.

And maybe 1 or 2 others before that. ;-)
Cool thread.

I'm guessing it will happen in November 2020

Jared Ward will beat it in a couple weeks in New York

This.
It's entirely possible that the world record will be 1:59.59 or better before another American runs 2:09.59 or better. If your name is not Galen Rupp, you're truly on the JV squad.
And no, my marathon times have nothing to do with this. I don't play football either, but I've been known to talk about the NFL.

Was there a tailwind in Boston 1983? It is interesting that almost half of that list ran their fastest at Boston. 5 in Boston 1983.

I disagree that WCAP guys are likely to do it soon, but I agree that Leonard Korir running 2:09 wouldn't be as big of a deal
It'll be pretty exciting to see an American other than Rupp finally break 2:12, tbh. Breaking 2:10 is a ways down the road from that.

Yep and ‘94 and 2011? Other years too I’m sure.
Who has the Top US Marathon Times - Boston list?
Alan
Interestingly, four of the five fastest U.S. marathoners ran their best times in the past eight years, and another of the top ten, Abdi, was active during this period after running his best a few years earlier.
As bad as it seems now, except for Rupp, this era has been the best at the top.
Hall 2:04:58a 2011
Khannouchi 2:05:42 2002
Rupp 2:06:11 and 2:06:23? 2018
Ritz 2:07:47 2012
Meb 2:08:37 2014
Strike Hall's Boston time and we still have him at #3 marathoner within ten years of the present.
