Completed (survived) a summer block of marathon training. It was my first go at the marathon, but I have years of running on my resume. I finally realized that my body just isn't suited for heat/humidity running and I won't be running an early fall marathon for awhile. My effort suffers and it's just a rough go. On the plus side, I feel like I gained a lot of fitness from that block, and a month removed, I am feeling really good on my base building runs. So I guess that's a good sign.
From some more experienced marathoners, is it pretty common to run stronger in the cold vs the heat? When I listen to some talk about how they thrive in the heat, I am jealous and intrigued, what is it about their body type that allows them to run in those conditions? Now that the temps have cooled down in the Northeast, my runs at the same effort are feeling so much better and my HR is finally lower while not sacrificing efficiency.
