He regularly ran up to 18 miles for his Sunday long run. My guess, is he probably ran the distance in training by accident. We've all done it. Went out for a 16 mile run in unknown territory, got lost and ended up running 28 miles.
Pre didn't have the patience to run a successful marathon.
