Long story: I've been experiencing pain in my left hip, glute, hamstring, and lower back over the past year, starting last October. This gradually got worse until February 1st when everything finally gave out and I was hobbled with extreme glute and lower back pain. I took eight weeks off from running and cross trained in the meantime. We assumed this was some sort of bony pelvis stress injury. I came back sooner than I would have liked and the pain never fully left. I built up mileage back to some of my highest mileage weeks ever in the 80s while running through discomfort. The pain never got all the back to where it was in February but I was in pain and workouts were getting worse and worse so I ended up getting and MRI and and an x-ray which confirmed both osteitis pubis and a stress fracture in my pubic ramus right next to the pubic symphysis.
Has anyone else dealt with this kind of thing before and what were your experiences with it? How long did you take off? Was the far ranging pain typical? What was the comeback like? I had a cortisone injection in the pubic symphysis which seems to have helped some of the radiating pain through my glute and hamstring but not even near all of it. It has been a month now since I last ran and symptoms are not much better. Was there anything you did that seemed to help the healing process/relieved pain? I'm honestly just tired of hurting and want to run healthily again.
