I ran my first marathon Sunday. Tuesday morning is when I first noticed a sharp pain in my lower leg. Automatically thought it was a bad shin split, but a few hours later, I realized with that level of constant discomfort, it had to be more than a shin splint...
It’s a non-stop discomfort in my lower leg in the middle & outer side, about 2-3 inches above my ankle. It gives me slight discomfort at rest, and then the real pain comes when I move my foot up or down, regardless of if I’m putting pressure on the leg or not (i.e. laying in bed moving my foot or walking around). Makes it difficult to walk. It also hurts immediately when walking, and the pain doesn’t necessarily intensify with continued walking. So it’s not really something that is aggravated by use.
There is no visible bruising or swelling. From the surface, looks completely normal. If I move my foot and place my hand on the affected area, I can feel the muscle or whatever it is as my foot moves. It feels rubbery when it moves. Hard to explain.
I’m visiting the doctor late next week, but I have some activities this weekend that involve light walking, and I’m trying to decide if that’s ok, or if I’ll risk seriously injuring myself. Has anyone else experienced something similar? How did you handle it? Appreciate any comments! Thanks!
