I've never posted one of these before but figured why not take a crack at it.
40 year old running about 6 years after long layoff post college,
Prd last year 1:26:37 in a half with a Pfitz plan which was a long run and tempo in a given week for 6 weeks, then long run and vo2 max 2nd 6 weeks pretty much. mileage was around 40-45 .
This time trying more Hudson approach. Long run, tempo AND VO2 in a single week, and upped from 5 to 6 days per week running, averaging 50 mpw now.
The thing is last year I seemed to be hitting my paces more consistent -this year not so much, not sure if its the heat out in Cali, just getting older and nearing my peak potential, or just the added mileage- the extra day per week running - or tempo AND vo2 -not OR VO2- all taking its toll .
But any way my last 2 workouts were 8 x 1 mile at
6:41, 31, 33, 31, 35, 36, 34, 32
and 4 x 3k at
6:32 pace, 6:27, 33, 34
both w 90 s rest
wondering if I can go under 1:25 or at least under 1:26
doesnt make sense to be able to run 6:30 pace if I cant even hit that in a workout but not sure if the taper plus the race atmosphere will get me there?
