I have no athletic background but am healthy and active and got into running after college. I’ve never run with a formal training plan - just get out the door and run. I’ve never done any speed work. In the last few years:
Half - 1:38 - literally no specific training - just kind of showed up
5k - 19:53 - neighborhood ymca event I just showed up to the day of.
Mile - 5:53 - solo on a track to see if I could break 6 min. Didn’t try that hard.
Marathon - 3:38 - ran 2 long runs of about 20 miles but other than that, just random running as training. Maybe 30-40 mpw.
So, if I follow a decent plan, train for a real 16-20 weeks, and put in 55 or 60 mpw as a peak, do I have a shot of running high 2:50’s?
Looking at jay Johnson’s simple marathon training but open to other suggestions.
