So I've just discovered that DeepFakes have been a thing for the past year where we can now relatively easily replace the faces of people in videos in a very convincing manner. This is done by training neural networks with videos of what the target's face look like. And the technology can apply to other objects, too, not just faces.
I am deeply shocked at how easy this is to do by anyone and calls into question whether I can trust any videos I see. Can we really use videos as evidence for anything any more? It would be much more trust worthy at this point to rely on eye witnesses instead.
The present is a scary time.
