I often struggle to understand what people are doing with their money who don't save. If you are not saving money you are either (1) mismanaging the allocation of money (2) completely negligent of the need to save (3) not earning enough. I have sympathy for people in situation (3), and I understand it is not always tenable to get a larger stream of income. This thread is not about those people. Situation (1) represents a more mathematical failure. People in this category are likely spending too much on housing or any other good/service that they don't need, when they could be putting away money for investment. But this thread is also not for them.
People in category (2), what the hell do you do with your money? If you make 60k a year (median household income), you should be able to save SOMETHING. Are there people who literally spend through their entire paycheck without comprehending the need to save for raising a family/buying a house/retirement? Like I said, I understand if you just flat out don't have the income and need to live paycheck to paycheck, and even if you live in an expensive area and are generally mismanaging your finances. But for everyone else who has a reliable stream of income and does not save, what are you doing with your money and why have you not started saving?
