The correlation is obvious and well documented, you'll have to argue there's no causation, i.e. skinny people aren't better marathoners. A weak position.
That's calories available for consumption per day, not what people actually eat. I don't think the average Japanese person is even eating 2800 calories per day. I kind of think Americans could eat 3750 calories on average though...
