So I started running cross country/ track during the first semester of my junior year of high school (no summer training or prior running experience) because my friends got me to join the team, but I gradually ended up really loving the sport. I trained hard, and by the end of that year, my pr's were 19:35 for the 3 mile on a very hilly course during and 4:58 for the 1600 and 2:11 for an 800 relay split during track .
During the summer I ramped up my mileage way too quickly (20-30mpw)-->(40-45mpw) within the span of around 2 weeks and ended up injured for the first 2 months of my senior xc season. I still ended up running a 16:55 3 mile pr on a flat xc course, however, I wasn't satisfied at all with that. So during the winter/early spring , I put some more dedication on injury prevention and whatnot and performed very well during my track season. Off of ~25-30 mpw, I started making significant improvements in my 1600 pr. First 1600 invite- 4:47 pr to win the heat. Second 1600 invite - 4:40 to win the heat. Section prelims- 4:36 pr (not a win but still qualified me for finals). Section finals - 4:32 pr, 7th place finish.
My other pr's aren't nearly as good as my 1600 (2:05 in the 800 and 10:52 in the 3200), but to be fair, my focus was never on the 800 or the 3200 and the only times I really ever ran them was after doubling first for the 1600 at dual meets.
I realize that none of my pr's aren't significantly notable in terms of getting me anywhere with running in college, especially considering that I'm at a huge D1 school, but I feel like I've missed out on a lot by not running for all 4 years and that had I done so, I would've been completely capable of running for at least a lower D1 school.
I miss the competitive atmosphere of xc and track races and my running club is much more casual with few races and far lesser emphasis on training. However, I also know that my school is way too fast for me to walk on. If any of you have any suggestions on what you might do in my situation, please feel free to respond
