Hi, I'm in 8th grade and I was wondering if I was running good times that are on track for high school or not. I also would like some advice on how to train to improve my times. I run a 19:48 5k and a 12:36 2 mile.

Boy or girl?
25-30mpw, 2 workouts (tempo, FARTLEK, interval, hill), 3 easy days (70% of max heart rate), long run on Saturday (5-7 miles for you). Take Sunday off.

Don’t be a maroon. Sub 20 is good for a sixth grader. They haven’t even really started training yet.
Keep at it, kid. You’re only going to get better.
Decent time but not great for 8th grade. The real studs break 16 as freshmen.
I'm a boy
Thank you
The best advice I can give is to listen to your coach. S/he knows you better than anyone here.
Soccer
Your times are decent depending on how much training you have been doing. Keep plugging away, keep it fun, and watch out for injury. Good luck.
It's hard to compare times as every XC course is different. Sometimes that accuracy of the course is in question too.
The better question is, "what place did you finish?" as in XC it's all about place.
I got 4th in that invintational out of about 200-250 guys
I stopped counting at the first 50 boys nationally in Milesplit under 18:00.
19 whatever is fine, not killer.
Train carefully and don't overdo it. It'll depend on the coach you get.
Elite 8th grade boys will run a 2 mile in cross country 10:30-11 flat and 1600m In track around 4:50.. then in HS if they’re coach isn’t a moron they can get them to run sub 16-17 min 5k if they are motivated and committed to training hard.
I ran somewhere close to 12 flat for 2 miles my 8th grade year in cross country and 5:30 for the mile in track.
Freshman year I ran 18:53 in cross then 5:15 in track..transferred to a dominat school in our district to get good sophomore year and ran 17:30 and 4:40. By senior year I ran 16:15 and 4:30.
Put in the work and you can get good. But I’d say your times right now are about average

I agree with everything but the last sentence. Your times are well above average for 8th grade. Not elite, to be sure, but if I were a HS coach I'd be pretty intrigued. A good HS coach and training program could take you up a level or two.
