I know I'm delusional, but hear me out.
I've recently got this unprecedented wave of inspiration to train hard again, and it won't go away despite my attempts to reason with myself.
My background: top 30 HS miler in US my senior HS year.
Never really injured, relatively low mileage--maybe 50-60mpw tops.
Went to decent track school on east cost.
Bad fit with coaching style, many injuries, culminating with bad foot stress fracture junior year.
Walked away, frustrated as hell, with bad taste in my mouth. Barely improved from HS PR, despite much higher intensity and volume (probably contributing to injuries). PR 4:09
Now 32. Have kept in decent shape with other activities since quitting track at age 21. Only 10 lbs over racing weight.
Has anyone ever made a comeback at this advanced age, just to finish running on a positive note?
Would be a fun personal challenge just to see if training in a consistent, intelligent way that works or me (i.e. polar opposite of college experience) would allow me to beat old PR.
