I'm about two months into my freshmen college cross country season and so far I have been redshirting it. In high school, I was very much so a mid-distance runner, with much faster times in the 400 and 800 than I had in the 1600 and above. I got a little scholarship money to run, but I had to compete in cross country if I wanted to receive it. I'm a 6'3, 174-pound dude, so "pretty big" for a runner. I love being in the weight room and wasn't really planning to stop until the head distance coach asked me to quit altogether and if I wanted to continue on strength work it'd have to be with calisthenics (push ups, pull ups, core work, etc.) His reasoning for this? That I'm carrying around too much weight. Now not to toot my own horn, but I've had great success at the weight I am at currently, but since he is the coach I'm gonna do what he says. In you guys' opinion, am I too big? And how much weight do I lose if I am? Still pretty pissed about this.
