But maybe I need to try him again.

We seem to be thinking of the same folks anyway. You know, I'm not sure what constitutes a top marathon coach. If it's producing a stable of people who get at least to shouting range of world class times I don't know if there are any now that Bill's retired. Maybe Joe Vigil but he's far away from you and maybe retired as well.
Anyway, the only other people I can think of in the Boston area doing any coaching are Tom Derderian and Jack Fultz and both of them, like Coogan, may be too busy with the programs they coach. Jack really isn't coaching "performance" runners, he does stuff with the Dana Farber program and Tom coaches Greater Boston. You probably could join. I don't know what sorts of success he's had with marathon runners. He looks in here now and again and maybe has some thoughts. If you got in touch with him maybe he'd have some ideas for you.
Away from Boston, maybe Lorraine Moller. She has coached individuals from time to time. I don't know if her Lydiard Foundation stuff keeps her too busy. And you've got both Lee Troop and Steve Jones in Boulder as well. I could see working with Lee. I don't know Steve. I only mention them because you add "USA."
I always wonder too why people from that era who did so well don't end up coaching very often. Around Boston or nearby you've got Rodgers, Bob Hodge, Patti Catalano, probably someone I'm not thinking of. I wonder what would happen if someone sought them out.
