He was 2:16:26 for 19th place. I like the guy, but I do hate the hype he gets on here.

Well he did start out off the pace, but what sort of killed him was his 25k split at 11.18 miles/hr and his 35k and 40k splits at 11.01 miles/hr. Without those splits, he likely would have sneaked through into the middle of that 5 man American pack somewhere in the 2:14 range. Still not an amazing time, but would have bettered his Boston Marathon time.
This is what? His 8th or 9th marathon of the year? Very impressed, well done Yuki.

what hype??
This was his 10th marathon of the year???
2;16 is insane. I think Yuki could run 2:05 if just cut out all the insane running that he does and just focus on specific races.

2:05? No chance lol
I think you mean reigning Boston Marathon CHAMPION Yuki Kawauchi.
Yuki's hype is deserved, considering his records for marathons run under a certain time and that he actually won a major marathon.
But his results after Boston this year have not been good. One has to wonder if all those miles are really starting to add up.
He just loves running. You don't see may of these other marathon runners competing in Ultramarathons

1/10. You mean, his low training mileage? Yeah, he should run 100+mpw in doubles like most other marathoners do.

Read up on Yuki Kawauchi training. He has done up to 120+ mile weeks in singles. He averages 80-110 miles per week. Given his 2:08 marathon or and season best of 2:11 he is doing alright. Plus he has the national record in Japan for 50 kilometres. He needs to do comrades next year and western states. He could become only the second person in history to win both Boston and comrades.
You do know that he is employed full-time right... So he can't have a normal training schedule. Many of the half marathons and 20ks and 30ks he run currently serve as training for the 10+ marathons he runs a year.
He’s a 2:teen machine. That’s great but he’s not a world class marathoner. Boston this year was not a normal race so a very tough 2:teen guy won. Good for him but don’t expect him to be competing for top in a world major again unless freak weather occurs again

No, he's a 2:08 guy.

Lol, what a moronic post. 2:08 PR and Boston Marathon CHAMPION. Yeah, not world class. LOL!
Wow, since Boston he's run 2 ultras, 5 marathons, and a ton of half marathons. That seems crazy even with his ability to recover.
You win some, you lose some.

He runs fewer miles the the elite, occasional marathoners. He averages less 400 miles per month.
Oh, he plans to stop working next April and run full-time. Just before the 2019 Boston marathon.
https://www.nytimes.com/2018/10/04/sports/yuki-kawauchi-marathon.htmlPeople love the guy because he’s personable and loves to race often.
Compare both of those traits to Rupp.
On this note, during the elite introductions, Yuki got a thunderous reception from the crowd at the start, and Galen got some gentle applause.
He’s accessible whereas Rupp is coddled and protected.
Who would you want to hang out with?
