yea wow, he wasn't able to defeat the most dominate runner of the last decade.... so I guess he should be the only one who retires.

You are correct. Mohammed is the most dominate runner of the past decade. But he should still consider retirement, he’s an embarrassment to the the flag. And he has god awful teeth.
Most of you posters are complete idots. He ran a 2:06!! thats over 3 minutes faster than he won with last year. Go try to run 2 miles at the pace he ran for his marathon...then come back and tell us he should retire and give up. Letsrun is a great site but morons post here belittling elite runners cranking out world-class times.

Yeah. I hear you bro. He’s done. Toast.

get out of here with this bullcrap....guys on here predicted Rupp to mop up Mo, and to break the american record.
Rupp does not do well with paced races, and he just didn't look good.
Not having a warm up raced def hurt him.
Maybe he should become a runner?
Move up to the Ultra?

Both of you idiots both spelled 'dominant' incorrectly. Talk about the blind leading the blind...

I propose the title: Sir Galen.
I'm sure from here will be a short break, followed by another buildup for a spring marathon, where he will continue to improve his resume, thus further cementing himself as one America's greatest marathoners and general distance runners of all time.
Not sure why but I find myself liking Rupp a little. No reason he shouldn't keep running marathons. 2:06 looks like his level and that's at least decent, and I really can't see him going back to the track. My guess is he keeps doing marathons at least through the 2020 Olympics.
He needs to make sure he recovers well from this marathon. Alberto needs to make sure of that. 2:06 is great. But he’s not done. Looking forward to seeing what marathon is next.
He continues to make a nice living doing something that is a hobby for rest of us.
I predict this what he does the next two years...
Boston 19’
Chicago 19’
Trials 20’
Boston 20’ (unless he’s injured)
2020 Olympics

Well, he was also beaten soundly by Suguru Osako. It's not exactly like he finished a close second. 5th in a relatively weak field isn't a particularly confidence-inspiring performance.
At least Galen was on the last mile when the winner broke the tape. . Unlike when Jorgensen probably wasn’t even at 23 mile mark when the overall female broke the tape.
1) Take a month off. Swim and/or ride a bike and do fitness none weight training exercises for the next four weeks. No plyometrics over next four weeks.
2) Gradually build up fitness for 2019 Boston Marathon.
3) No other Marathons in 2019.
4) TC 10 mile, October, 2019.
5) US Olympic Trials Marathon, February, 2020.
6) Peachtree 10K, early July, 2020.
7) 2020 Olympic Marathon, later summer, 2020

Osaka was running for 100,000,000 yen
I agree with this. At some point you need to step back a bit and recover more. I don’t care if your A 4 hour or 2 hour marathoner.
I liked Galen pre race interview. But to be honest I thought he looked more tired than usual.
I would like it if he didn’t do a spring marathon and perhaps just a good 1/2. Remember when Shalane took time off due to her back injury? She came back and was running great fast track times and ended up winning her first marathon.
After what 15 years or so Galen could use a down year or at least some time off.
Skip Boston. Go to London or Lake Biwa and drop a 2:04 if he can.
Is there a rule against attaching a helium balloon to yourself while running a road race?
Am I living in the twilight zone? The Boston Marathon weather was terrible!
How rare is it to run a sub 5 minute mile AND bench press 225?
Move over Mark Coogan, Rojo and John Kellogg share their 3 favorite mile workouts
Mark Coogan says that if you could only do 3 workouts as a 1500m runner you should do these
Red Bull (who sponsors Mondo) calls Mondo the pole vaulting Usain Bolt. Is that a fair comparison?
