And this is the truth: none of this is possible without the support and advice of everyone here. You guys completely recalibrated my conception of what's possible. It's not a small thing. I firmly believe that I don't even qualify for Boston without this thread. De-lurking was a great decision. Aw, shucks. But yeah really.
So if you're lurking out there... yes you... say hi.
Long time lurker, first time poster. Coach, thanks for the quote above that inspired me to post here.
It was also very inspiring to see all the regulars hit their extraordinary times at Chicago.
I am pretty embarrassed to contribute much here because I am a newbie runner that isn't that fast.
39 year old, 5ft 7in, 176 lbs
PR's in 2018: Half - 1:28:xx; Marathon - 3:06:xx
Long term goal: Sub 3 in 2019
Short term goal: Sub 3:10 in 8 weeks
Background:
Started running 5 years back with the goal of losing weight. Lost 60lbs in the first year and got faster because of all the weight I was losing. Training wise, I average about 45-50mpw in the last 8 weeks before a race with a hit or miss mix of workouts. This cycle, I am trying to go up to 55-60mpw over the course of the last 8 weeks, excluding the taper.
Last week's training:
Monday - Travel day, so got 2 miles in on the hotel treadmill
Tuesday - AM: 7 miles; PM: 2 miles -- all at about 9 min/mile pace
Wednesday - AM: 7 miles @ 8:15; PM: 2 miles at 8:47
Thursday - 15 miles @ 8:40
Friday - Travel day, so compensated on Thursday
Saturday - Unplanned rest, too tired from travel
Sunday - Half marathon race. Ran 1:34:xx. I was unsure of my fitness as I have started training again 3 weeks back after a 7 week break with an interrupting life and 2 bouts of the flu.
Weekly total: 51 miles
YTD: 1676 miles
