CR is from 2009 by Aisling Cuffe 17:45.9 - how much does Tuohy break this by?
Well, #6 Venables ran it in 18:11, so...
So she could stroll the course in 17:30 and still crush Cuffe's record.
If she improves her track times this spring she might be on a path to approach Zola Budd type of talent. Still needs to stay healthy and not burnout.

One thing that is apparent is that at this time her team is not that competitive, so perhaps Foot Locker is in her future? If, so, that course record will also go.

Well they came 4th (and obviously their combined time was the fastest of the day. 70th all time). Their 5th runner is in grade 10. Maybe she can progress fast in the next month. The problem is they only seem to have 5 girls. Nobody can have an off day.
Their number 2 is pretty good too (she was 5th)
I was looking at the time gaps, granted #1 is pretty fast, but #3 and 4 are ~4 minutes slower than #1 as of now and I don't think that cuts it at NXN. I think the top teams last year had all 5 in inside 2:30 off Katelyn. But they do have 1 1/2 more months to progress.
Not a little impressive to run 16:21, winning by 2:27, to beat the course record for girls by over a minute, and to beat all but 16 boys over the A-G varsity races (three or four other boys would have tied her at 16:21). Just incredible.
Taking a step back, Megan Venables, who had the record of 17:27 until today, only had HS bests of 10:33 (3200) and 17:22 (5000) and never ran faster than 17:03 in her life.
That's not very fast. Tuohy only went 1:06 faster than her.
Some guys that beat her today only have 1600m bests of 4:27.
True that we can’t predict the future but we can enjoy the present as she is the fastest high schooler ever.
Yup, and if she "only" runs 4:27 and say 9:30 this year that would be a pretty good junior year. The mile is hardly her best event either.

You picked misleading statistics and made a pessimistic argument.
The median boy around her time runs even quicker, than 4:27/9:30, and even if you use your stats, those would give her the HS records outdoor as a junior HS girl in his first season of her junior year. She might be in 15:20 or faster shape already for a track 5000m.
"I say 16:20 at worst just for kicks. She’s a 15:3x Runner solo indoors as a sophomore. Definitely could run 15 low for 5K indoor."
good call by you.......

Not a troll, just another observation. It probably really means that Venables ran the best race of her life that day

I predict that this was a more impressive race than the one that LRC has a ticker running for.
Venables got 5th at FL 2010. If Tuohy beat her by 66 seconds she’d take down that Balboa Fairchild’s course record by 10 seconds and destroy that years winner Cuffe. That’s if Venables run at FL was equivalent (maybe maybe not). You can’t diminish this run
The 1.11 rule for male/female conversion is your friend.
Using Cheserek's CR as baseline, the rule would have predicted 16:31 for KT today. She beat it by ten seconds; excellent, but not startling.
Now take a realistic assessment of Cheserek's 5000m track fitness when he set that CR and apply 1.11.
13:53 x 1.11 = 15:25.
I'd give her that, and good for her.
Have to say she looks like a lock to make the 2020 Olympic team at 5000. Should be able to make the Olympic finals.
