Always wondering how the best of D3 would stack up against the best of D2. Opinions? Mine would be NCC by five points in a dual.

MCC would win they are the most dominant XC team in every division combined (not saying they are the fastest, but they are the most dominant) I'm not even entirety sure NAU can beat them easily. NAU could beat them but it would be hella close imo.

Adams State would win. Yes, NCC is dominant but Adams state can truly compete with top 20 D1 programs. As for the D2 vs D3 debate, D2 might be faster but D3 is more competitive.

NAU just won Nuttycombe against the best teams in the nation by nearly 100 points without their best runner (Baxter). NCC wouldn't even be remotely close to the Lumberjacks, but good try.

What the hell does this even mean?
It means that while the top D2 runners are faster and the top 2-3 teams are better, D3 has more competition, ie depth

Last season, NCC apparently received a walk-on transfer from CU. He was barely competitive within the team at CU, and came in 2nd at DIII Nationals. NCC cannot compete with NAU.

D3 does not have more depth than D2 though. Competitive could also mean that runners are closer to each other ability-wise. For example a race of 12 guys in the 1600 with PRs between 4:55 and 5:00 could be considered more competitive than a race of 12 guys with PRs ranging from 4:10 to 4:50

I assume that's a weird way of saying there's more depth. I'm not even sure that's true though.

Yeah that's just not true.
Wis-La Crosse didn't even beat Sioux Falls at Griak Last year and was 2nd at D3 nationals. Sioux Falls was 27th at D2 nationals.
Another example last year at Paul Short, Christopher Newton who was 3rd at D3 nationals, got beat by over 190 points by Mount Olive who was 11th at D2 nationals.
Even the 2nd and 3rd place schools in D3 wouldn't even be mid pack in D2. And D1 is an ENTIRE different story.

Lol, it was this guy:
http://www.letsrun.com/forum/flat_read.php?thread=8696458I predict that NCC would finish about 75th in a meet against all D1 teams. NAU would score 15 points against them in a dual meet.

Not when NCC is averaging mid to low 24's as a team.
NCC because of their superior core workouts
Realistically, NCC would probably qualify for D1 nats most years and in its best years, be a top 20 team. There is something to be said about their consistency, quality coaching, and program. Look how many D1 programs "choke" every year at regionals and miss the meet or make the meet and choke at nationals. NCC's program may lack some the low sticks that make a difference but their tight split most years would normally put them in the meet and probably in the 20s at natties.
That being said, Adams State is a far superior program and its not even close. Adams State in some of its best years could have possibly won D1 nats and would realistically be top 10 program most years. Just look at their track times and success (which isn't always the best indicator but still) and to my knowledge, are one of the only teams to ever perfect score nationals albeit before the were officially D2.
NCC is nowhere near a good D1 team. They lost to IL State this year. Pull up track times in TFFRS and they are near the bottom of a power five conference.
No, they perfect scored in '92 which happened to be their first season as a D2 member. Previously they were NAIA.

This weekend Chico beat Pomona-Pitzer by a comfortable margin placing at least 7 in front of Pomona's #2. I believe both were ranked around 5th in their respective divisions going into the weekend.
https://www.tfrrs.org/results/xc/14676/Capital_Cross_ChallengeI compared distance track times through TFFRS. Based on that, I would put NCC about 50th in D1 and Adams State about 15th. Anybody thinking that NCC could even qualify for nationals in D1 has not paid attention to track times. Some of the XC courses are deceptively fast (short).
