Farah because he proved he’s not scared to go berserker mode in the marathon and then finish despite a suicidal pace. I am not a Rupp hater - I want the guy to succeed as much as any fan, but he has too many DNFs and bad finishes when things don’t play into his hand for me to pick him over a guy that’s proven himself a competitor at many distances with people gunning for him.
That said, as a guy pulling for Americans, I hope Rupp proves me wrong.
It's not my intention to be antagonistic, but exactly what DNFs or bad finishes are you referring to? How many makes for 'too many'?
1) Boston 2018
2) US 10k champs 2017
3) ????
Beyond that I'm straining to think of a race Rupp has started that he didn't finish and finish well.
Galess consistently has been remarkable. I agree. Yeah he’s had a few issues apparently in this marathon buildup but considering he had 2:06 After a difficult dnf Boston. Then went straight into 140 mile weeks I think he’s doing ok. He’s only had 2 or 3 slight injuries in his career.
Mo s great too. But I want Galen to have his moment. I gararentee if Galen does not win this time give him another chance with a good buildup in a marathon like Boston with no pacers he will beat the snot out of Mo.
Galen not Galass. Ha!

Rupp will beat Farah. I think the world will return to normal and an East African will win overall, Kirui being my bet.
But Galen has the marathon experience and confidence. He came third to Eliud in Rio, he won Chicago last year. He’s not there everyday seeing Mo beat him in workouts anymore. I think Galen for once outsmarts Mo....
Whilst chasing down Karoki, who is chasing down Geremew, who is being handily worked by Kirui.

How many chances?
Mo beats the snot out of Galen, every time but once out of 50+.
If Galen isn't injured, has his best prep ever, the temperature is 16°, but not 20°, his allergies are just perfect, and his vaporfly's aren't still giving him pf or achilles issues, then yes, he has a 1 in 50 shot at beating Mo.
Rupp dropped out at 15K.
The race was a slow 2:06, Farah took the sprint finish.
Stinson was top American in 2:08 high, fifth or sixth.

Farah. After hitting the half way point in a WR split then hold onto 3rd place and a British record in blazing hot conditions I think he should be a definite favorite. Plus he is a grafter and very rarely has a bad day.
And I've seen Farah kick for the win enough times in the Great North Run to think he will do the same in the marathon. That dude refuses to lose, and as long as he's in contention in the final mile.. it's going to be hard to beat him. On a course like Chicago with pacers.. if the weather is right, I could pin him for a 2:04 time, which is going to hard to beat. Question is whether or not he can actually win overall vs. the others.
Sup brah

Farah will sit on Rupp. Rupp will try desperately to push the pace and get away. Farah will kick late in the race FTW. I hope I’m wrong. I’m rooting for Rupp.
I haven't seen too many sit and kick marathons. Usually, someone makes a hard surge, breaks away and either holds the lead or craters. The marathon is nothing like a 10K and Mo could very well be incable of accelerating at the end.
Who cares, farah is on another level to Rupp.
Rupp runs 2:04 high and takes the win. Farah runs 2:05 high. Stinson runs 2:10 high.
We've published a history looking at the past history between Farah and Rupp:
I think Rupp is the better marathoner. Not sure about current fitness.
Rupp for the win.
I'll always root for an American over a foreigner. And I never liked the band Foreigner.

I am going with Rupp because I think he feels disrespected by Mo and is way too alpha to let Mo beat him. I am about 90% sure that Rupp will beat Mo, but only about 70% sure that Rupp will win.
1) Rupp
2) Farah
3) Osaku
