Hi all,
I just had a training hiccup, and I'm curious if anyone's been in a similar predicament and can offer some insight.
I'm running a half on October 13 (two weeks out from now). I've been prepping for the race for about four months, and my training has been fairly consistent. Based on feedback from my workouts, I think 1:16:30 is a fair target (that would be a PR for me).
However, last Sunday night I came down with a virus that has sidelined me for the last five days. I've had a sore throat, body aches, fatigue, faucet-like mucus production—symptoms concerning enough that I didn't want to push it with running for fear of worsening my situation. Work and graduate school were also hell this week, so I did no running from Monday through Friday.
I'm planning to get back out for a few miles tomorrow and see how things feel. Definitely don't want this thing migrating to my chest, but I'm super anxious to get running again. Has anyone ever been forced to take a chunk of time off right before a race like this? Any advice on how to readapt my legs? Is this gonna totally hose my taper? Should I nix this race and pick a different one that's farther out to give myself more time?
