If he ran a 2:01.39, he could easily break the half marathon WR.

The half marathon wr is 58:23 so 1:56:46 mary pace. That is faster then 2:01:39. You need more speed to run that fast.
Why didn't bekele get it? Or kipsang? Mutai?
Any 2:03 mid low side could prolly cop it
The half marathon doesn’t have the same prestige
Kipchoge cant break an hour for the half. Thats the problem. Rupp is faster.

Yet his PR is 22 seconds faster than Rupp and he ran it back in 2012. The man split a 60:30 for the second half of his marathon.
Holding a record for doing something 1/2 way........awesome

Holding a record for running 1/420th of a marathon seems to be popular so why not 1/2?
Kipchoge had the current road half world record holder
as a pacer, yet dropped out well before the half.
He found his bag of gold coins --- the marathon.

I didn´t know Tadesse paced Kipchoge...

This is the reason. 58:23 is too fast for a tune-up race so he doesn't bother.
he could most likely beat it. I'm not sure he cares.
The half-stupid-distance record is about as dumb as the full marathon record. I'm not the biggest Metric fan in the world, but 42.195?

Arbitrary distances based on an arbitrary metric. Blame the French for that.
Metric pacing is easier to understand and calculate then miles. You must still be thinking 100yds, 220, 440, 880, etc. That is antiquated; there is only metric track and road racing Dude.
Thy reading comprehension sucketh greatly.

ok, why doesn't he try to break the 20K WR
Of course Kipchoge is capable of not only breaking that record but putting it away from being broken again for many years. To do that however he will have to risk losing his grip of the Marathon. Geoffrey Kamworor is only 26 and more than capable. I am sure he is mentoring him to take that record down especially after his 13:01 5K split between 15K and 20K in the half marathon championships this year.
Bekele should try to break it, now that the Marathon is out of reach.
