I think it would be better to de-dupe your list instead of counting a single athlete multiple times. Also, as with any list, you can take multiple cross-sections to find out interesting statistics.
Everyone already knows that Galen Rupp is not close to holding the world record in the marathon. However, it is boring to simply judge runners on personal bests. There's nothing like a thrilling marathon of great performances. To his credit, he has medals. It will be interesting to see him progress.
I fail to see the purpose of stating US. runners are mediocre and receive too much hype. In a time when the average American does not following professional running, I would place value on any runner who calls attention to the sport, whether my opinion is if they deserve it or not.
