The elimination race made that more interesting with the stragglers having to battle it out. There was never any doubt up front. What did you all think of the elimination?
I think it is dangerous in the steeplechase because some runners are so exhausted after the surge against elimination that they might crush into the next barrier (Boxberger even fell after being eliminated).
The elimination was rather irrelevant in yesterday's 3000m women where the result was almost exactly according to SB and all eliminated runners clearly behind the top four. In today's steeple the only slight surprise was that the Danish girl edged out Praught. But she almost collapsed as well and took forever for her last lap.
But overall I am surprised how little the elimination mattered in those races.
The changed rules for the field events (except vertical jumps) are making a travesty out of them, though.
It also very clearly disfavors these field events because the first round eliminates one of each team (which is ridiculous in a team championship). So not only will the farthest throw not guarantee a win (because it does not count for the "final"), not only could the second best thrower be eliminated in the first round but e.g. Europe is denied a potential 1-2 in javelin whereas America can get 1-2 in women's hurdles or another sprint
