Looks like he was content to do his own thing. 10s down after 5k and more than 30 at 10k. There's no need to do equivalent stuff. Like is this worth 2:08 or 2:11? Rupp is a 2:06 guy, probably didn't taper, and ran 2:01 marathon pace for 10 miles.
For those of you too lazy to watch the interview. Rupp seemed happy with the performance. He said the goal was simply to race as he likes to race 5-6 weeks out from a marathon. Near the end of the interview, he was asked which is better Olympic gold or the marathon WR and he said Olympic gold without a doubt.
Any mention of the first and second place? All I see is that Galen ran a rust buster but a respectable time as well for third place. What was the winning time?
well the world record is 44 1/2 minutes.
the 46 1/2 is about 212 quality according to iaaf tables.
which is good for a training run,
if rupp backs off to 100 miles per week from 140
he might go 45 3/4 in the next outing, not that hes' going to do one.
that would put him on track for 205.
Olympic gold is just another medal in the marathon. the quality is not there.
I'd put the WR way over the gold OG unless everybody shows up, which never happens, it's normally a fluke winner of late.
You're in the history books with the WR.

Lindsay, who is 26 years old, teamed for the first time with Mrs. Catalano, who is 28. Last year, he ran a world-record 45:59.8 to win this race and the twosome title while paired with Margaret Groos. Rose First Man to Finish

No one cares what you think.

This is true^^^. Herb did run that time!
Disagree. Olympic gold will always be Olympic gold. Once you’re three names down on the WR list though, nobody remembers.

Not true. World records are harder to come by. A world record is not set every 4 years on average, hardly.
Most have no clue who won the Atlanta O.M. and it was in the States!
Why?
We used a calibrated measuring wheel in the early 80s.
I won damn near everything as a high school senior.
My name is still on the board in the gymnasium for record times I had. Today, when those records are 35 years old.
The Olympics won't even be a thing when my name is still up there. My name will still be there when I'm gone.
I won state. I'm a state champion, even though I ran slow as sh1t there. But I'm a record holder going on 40 years. THAT is what I'm happy about.

I would question any course distance from the 1980s.
I personally measured the course for Greg Meyer's record. It was accurate. Period.
Since Galen was beat the first place finisher should be able to run sub 2 for a marathon. Does anyone know if he is entered for Chicago?

Not true. Everyone knew that course was way short. Lindsay ran many 10 milers and his best was a full minute slower. Additionally he's never showed in any race that he was anywhere near sub 46 talent.
Meyer ran a 27:53 10k a few weeks after his 46:13, then ran his 2:08:59 s few weeks after that 10k. Thsee are more reasonable indications of what his 10 mile is worth.

I could not have said it better myself.
One of the biggest keys to success in all this is running hard when it counts, and not caring about the rest. No one will remember this race at all when he wins in Chicago. As far as 'why travel when you could do it at the Nike campus?? $$$
Nobody will care about Chicago when Bekele destroys the field in Amsterdam(possible wr if not course record).
