Good. JW is arrogant. I like when he does poorly.
What have we learned?
Walmsley is a fair weather ultra runner.
Miller should stick to 50K-50miles.
Tollefson shouldn't let the mountain stab his butt.
What happened to Hammonds?

Walmsley should learn that winning training log contests is unimportant.
How many times has JW gotten chicked in this event? At his Western States self-inflicted course miscue, and total crash, he got chicked. In 60th+ place he has certainly been passed by more fit, and better prepared, lady runners.

At the pre race press conference Walmsley soundest so uptight that the Euros don’t post all their training.
Time for him to resume 'ride' activities on Strava.
The ironic thing about everyone on here bashing him is that he would absolutely destroy you in a mountain ultra if you tried to run with him. I'm not sure anyone on these boards (Other than maybe Sage) hangs with Jim for 60 miles either at WS (2017) OR UTMB this year.
As I said in the UTMB post... There is a big difference between a flat road marathon and a high altitude mountain 100. You get in trouble in the mountains and you cant just step off the course and get a ride back to your car. Sometimes you are 5 to 6 miles (or more) from the next aid station. When your exposed to rain, possible snow, freezing temps and you are doing so on technical trail for hours and hours and hours (spare me the Boston Marathon weather this year crap...that was 3 hours at most) it's a whole different ball game.

These ultra guys aren't wearing singlets. Boston was a different situation, but it doesn't make it less tough. You have no idea about the wind at Boston. Sustained wind chill for 3 hours. Do you get that in the mountains? You either get hypothermia or you don't. You don't run hypothermic for 170 km, you drop out.
LOLL..you're giving these dorks even 60 minutes in the mountains at JW's pace?! That's the most gracious comment these wannabe beta's will receive all day. Pathetic is an understatement to this thread. I can only imagine some of you in real life...
Whilst all this is true....JW did get beat by a woman with a 19:30 5k PB.
And the womens winner was 46 and only started running at 40. She beat him by HOURS.
I get it, he had problems and suffered hard and wasn't pushing 100% after losing touch. But still.
DNF? #sad
likely true... but the race was not 60 miles.
I thought he looked really uptight at the start line. Almost frustrated with standing there...everyone else had smiles on and was joking and he just looked like he did not want to be there.
All the talk/hype about his training leading into the race maybe messed with his head. Possible he thought it should have been an "easy" win considering he did so much and felt so good in training? Unfortunately big training blocks doesn't necessarily equal big game day performance....
I saw Jim run at WS this year, an awesome display of running on a very difficult/hot day. I dont know him of course but my guess is that he did not allow enough time to recover from WS before doing his build up for UTMB in Silverton Colorado. I know these elite runners recover faster than mere mortals, but he may have over cooked himself training in Silverton.
He certainly has the talent to win UTMB, when fully prepared and rested, but less than 10 weeks after an all out WS trying to do an all out 100m again against an elite field is a tall order.
What are your thoughts on this?
How come Sage V02Max guy did not run this year?
No, he's 1 for 7 in major competition. The problem is between his ears.
I think in the pre race interview he said after WS, he did a 20 mile week, then an 80 mile week, then was training again. He said he knew it wasn't smart, but "sometimes you have to take a gamble."
Well the gamble didn't pay off.
Ok the men yes, but on the women’s side Cat Bradley and Kaci Lickteig both in top ten, so I wouldn’t say all the Americans went home devastated. So many injuries and drops especially some of the favorites.
Some people can actually perform without the Coku Cowboys:
