To preface I am a pretty average runner. I don't score at meets usually but I am faster than a good amount of the team. I have been running for 3 years (I am a senior now, so going on 4th). The reason I want to quit is because our coach is a complete bully and borderline abusive.
He ignores all state high school regulations. It regularly hits 100 F where I live and we aren't legally allowed to practice if it is above 92 F. Of course he ignores this.
He uses collective punishment. The last two days we have had to do 15 minutes of plank because of others not following directions. The last two days we had two tempo work outs in 100 F weather in a row (both of these followed by collective punishment).
Coach also does not care about the runner's well being. A few kids were caught walking a few weeks back so he made them plank on burning hot concrete. They still have scars on their arms today.
I could barely stand up today, but practice is 100% mandatory so I went. My running group was also in a ton of pain, so we decided to walk a little bit today. Coach caught us, went ballistic, and sent everyone home. Unless you are diagnosed by a doctor (or you are one of his favorites) you can't use pain and injury as an excuse to lighten your mileage. Also my school won't do anything about him since his abusive techniques have landed him a good amount of rings. I really want to finish my senior year, but I don't know if I can take it from him anymore. Help me please..
