That is a good question. He did go sub 60 in Italy a month or so before Boston -- and of course did that Boston 18 miles a few weeks before Prague.

I'm sure he'll be fine -- but I'll bet ge goes 59:30, gets the AR but gets outgunned (as he should) by the half marathon specialists.

He'll need wheels to defend his Chicago title, that's for sure

I am beyond pumped for this. Would love to see Rupp pull off the W, but regardless the American record is his to lose here.

Jake destroyed a class field in Houston, and one would think on a fast course, in good conditions, and great pacing, Jake could go well below 59 (possibly 58:30). Rupp may be able to go under 59 as well but I'm not sure he can approach 58:30.

Seems to me Salazar and Galen don’t want to put all the eggs in one basket. He has three races lined up. At least one should be a good one for Rupp. He can always hold back if things don’t look to be going in his favor.

Looks like we will see Rupp doing American marathons and Europe 1/2 marathons. That seems to be their routine.

Same concerns were raised before the Half World Champs this year with Cheroben. He definitely dismissed them all.

It's a question mark regarding his fitness, but something tells me he will come good. As for Jake Robertson, Houston was a pretty good race regarding conditions, course, competition.

I believe Jake is in shape to break Zane's Oceania Record, but not faster than 59:40 or so. If Rupp is healthy and goes for it, he will break Hall's AR.

That's not even a question: Anytime that Kam lines up in a half marathon the possibility of a world record is always there, it's probably his best distance.

Crazy aerobic machine (he beat Kipsang in his own game) and plenty of speed to go along (12:59) with it mean that a 58 flat half is not impossible.

The guy is also a fierce competitor and doesn't shy away from no one.

Terrific field and perhaps someday if they start testing at half marathons, we can go back to your post and add tested positive for EPO to more than half the field.

I'm confused by this. Rupp is faster than those guys across the board, from the mile to marathon. If anything I'd say Rupp is the more likely to hit 58:30 than the other fellows.

I wonder whether Rupp will choose to go out with the leaders at WR pace, or hang out with the second group, going out at 59:30 pace or so.

I think it will depend on the weather ect. But honestly I think he will just aim for the AR. I still think he wants to beat Mo and Chicago is his first priority. I’m assuming he is fantastic shape. Also he has not raced at all I think since Prague. So having a couple of races is a good thing. Although I still wonder if racing a 10 miler and 1/2 before Chicago will just tire him out. Hard call. We will see what happens.

The CPH is a very fast course. I have measured in a few times over the years. But last year we had a crazy hail /thunder storm just after all the elites finished.

Regardless, one of the great half marathons in the world.

Jake's 27:30 was run during hot conditions during a championship final - so not a time trial. In the middle of marathon training, so not optimized for the 10000 at all.

Rupp does not have a road 10k under his belt. Jake has a blazing solo 27:28!

Jake was bored during his Houston half in windy conditions. Slow running up front for much of the race. He easily put away a class field in the last mile or two.

He could have easily gone low 59 that day.

He beat Lilesa, who is a 59:22 half/2:04 full marathoner

Adola, who is a 59:02 half/2:03 marathoner

Kitata, who is a 2:04 runner

Korio, who is a 58:51 runner

His times are still slower overall. Big difference between a 4:01 miler and a 3:50 miler.

Kool that Rupp is running this but I dont see him going all out. Not 3 weeks before Chicago. He likely wants a nice fast workout, but that just may include getting the AR. If he goes 59:31 that gives him bragging rights over Mo as well!
