Why is it that Tirunesh, Vivian, and Genzebe have beaten her as well. You don't make a point.
Also, it's a shame that you guys don't give Vivian or Orbiri their credit for beating and taking down Ayana, obiri in 2 straight championships.
ALSO, Vivian ran that same hard 10000m at Rio, and then had to come in and run a hard 5000m to beat Ayana. But the excuse is that Ayana was on tired legs, when that 10000m race was the first race of the season for her, and she came in the Olympics and WC fresher than all the other runners.
Bottom line, the girl got destroyed in 2 straight championships.
The funny thing is, and I remember, you guys were saying that she was going to win the double at the championships, but then when she lost......The excuses came out.
Genzebe beat Ayana - Ayana lost because Genzebe disregarded the pace that they agreed upon, and turned it into her own race.
Vivian and Obiri beat Ayana - She was tired from running the 10000m race ( even thought Viv ran that same race ..lol)
Obiri beat Ayana - She was tired from the 10000m race again, even though she hadn't raced all season.
Tirunesh beat Ayana - Naw, that doesn't count, Ayana was too young then.
Excuses.
When my favorite runners lose, I accept the loss, and appreciate the other runner. I can't stand Rupp, but hey he won Chicago and beat out some of my favorite top guys. I had to give him his respect.
Also, this thread was clearly about Sifan, clearly. But then the Ayana homers came out.[/quote]
Scorpion the reason we are talking about Ayana is because your thread focus was Hassan moving up to the 10k - when a world class runner does this its only natural folk immediately discuss the top athlete in that event. This allows dialogue relating to her chances and the strategies/training Hassan will have to implement in order to have any chance of victory.
I (we) are certainly not here to provide damning assessment of Obiri, Cheryuiot, Dibaba, etc - hell they represent an assortment of the best female distance runners of all time.
I have huge respect for each of them, - what you are contending is that Ayana is inferior to them and wilts under any sort of pressure, I dont profess that Ayana is better or worse than any of them - they are all unique and have their own specific strengths and weaknesses.
But you seem to be on a crusade to defame Ayana stating she fraudulently claims injury to avoid competing, or Cheryuiot ran the 10k in Rio and still rallied to win the 5k - Fantastic effort and good on her. But to state that Ayana should have beaten her and she is mentally weak is a preposterous claim to make. Ayana has never missed a podium position when she has represented her country - thats a fantastic effort.
We should appreciate all athletes for their individual brilliance - and also respect they are not machines and will have fuctuations in performance.
I know you are a huge fan of Cheruiyot and rightly so - I have stated before her performance at Rio should have been given more recognition silver in the 10 and gold in the 5 - All I (we) are doing is speculating how different Ayanas performance in the 5 would be if she didnt run the 10 at the same WC. - Sure maybe others have a better and more consistent ability to double up - this could be Ayanas big achilles heel. But surmising how Ayana would have gone is NOT taking away from the performance of the victors.
