I was hoping someone had some specific training, running advice for how I can handle the heat and humidity. I live in basically sub-tropical climate in the deep, deep south. It is a whole magnitude of hot different. Consistently 90+ highs and lows nothing less than 75 from about May-October. Humidity is about 85-90%. So the usual "wake up early, or run late", or "hydrate"..yeah not really helping. Same with "Acclimate over a week of two", I've lived here for years now...that's not happening. (I am naturally not very comfortable in the heat). Accordingly, I basically only have a "half year" running season, I try and start late September and by early May I have to shut it down. I typically try and run any "long" races in late December, or really long say marathon length in February with a few mid range events mid spring. The problem is I aspire to run some of the big name Fall Marathons like: USMC Marathon (late October) and NYCM . I also, hate this feeling like I am starting over every Fall and as I age, time/speed seems to slip away. Any advice? Suggestions beyond the usual? This is not overcoming a week or two heat wave like living up North.
Ideas for how I should start each "half season"? And what could I do to be ready for Fall Marathons (for next year)..besides move.
some additional notes:
I was never a "runner". I started about 4 years ago, a friend training for NYCM was inspiring. I've done a couple of "halfs" decent (2:05 PR yeah not blistering) and mentally feel comfortable with that distance, and 1 marathon (did not go well, but it wound up being 74 degrees in February that day...i was not prepared for fueling..so I'd like to redeem myself and "finish with dignity").
Thanks for any suggestions!!!
