Hello, I’m new to these forums so please forgive me if I’ve done something wrong/posted something in the wrong place etc. I’m going into sophomore year with a 4:46 1600, 2:13 800, and 17:17 5k. I’ve been doing fairly well for summer conditioning, averaging 45 to 50 miles a week, and doing some speed work sessions (few fartleks, threshold 5k with 400 and 200 repeats afterwards, etc.) with my personal coach who helped me in outdoor when we didn’t have a real coach. Now I’m going into xc season with the XC coach who got me to a 17:17, and I’m kind’ve doubting his training now. This week I did a 10x300m(ish) workout with 300m at like 7 minute pace in between. I feel like this is too little for what I’ve been doing earlier with my personal coach, when I did 6x3 minute workouts with 2 minutes complete rest in between and other workouts like that. To top it off, my school coach said my workout I did during summer was more of a mid season workout with him (17:45 5k, followed by 4x400 and 4x200m). I don’t really know who to trust in this situation and I don’t know how much intensity i should be getting in. Can anyone share their input/experience with me? I want to run d1 collegiately, and I feel I have the talent to do that considering last year was basically my first year of seriously running ( ran track/xc in 7th grade, no real long mileage during xc and fairly decent speed work in track, but then took next year to just do soccer)
