New crown jewel indoor facility to go with exceptional outdoor track. #1 ranked DI student dining experience. XC course on campus. Will Liberty University overtake BYU and Baylor as the #1 protestant program.

No they won't guy who goes to liberty
Those Baptists sure know how to donate!!!
Have you been on their new cross country course? Honestly, it's nothing to shout about. Too many bridges, rocks, and hills. Personally I liked Peaks View Park. That was the home course back in my day.
But Liberty has been rising for a long time. I remember when they won the IC4A meet for the first time. Now they have had three national champions and have great facilities to attract more athletes.
Obviously LU is a niche school, but there are lots of guys out there looking for that kind of environment. Definitely one of a kind.
Seems like the perfect college for Ryan Hall to coach for.
And BYU is not exactly Protestant in the traditional sense.
They acquired great $ reserves via on-line degree program.
BYU is owned and "sponsored" by ultra-wealthy LDS church, but t&f operate out of a DIII level indoor facility. Coach Eyestone should stop walking on eggshells and demand justice. Quality of the program merits it.
Joseph Smith was raised in a Protestant household.
Any new church a Protestant creates, automatically becomes a member of the Protestant theme park of churches.
One of the dumbest statements ever posted. Please go read a book. Any book.

BYU has 27 year olds on their team, if 27 year olds can't be 20 year olds, there's something wrong.
Walking away from college with a degree from LU they better offer good facilities since the value of the degree is whatever the ink and paper cost.

I actually laughed a bit at this.

Ryan Hall actually is a Christian that walks in the footsteps of Jesus and puts his money where his mouth is, not the nuthouse variety of Christian conservatism pushed by Jerry Falwell.
Liberty has always been solid; but if they could not get a team to nationals from 2004-2010 on the backs of Chelenga and McDougal, why would they suddenly be able to do so now?
VMI has a new indoor facility and is located in a nice town in Virgina too. Get ready for them to overtake Air Force and Navy and become the nations preeminent DI military XC program!
decent for 28 year olds wrote:

Yes, BYU does need an upgrade in their indoor T&F facilities. The whole Smith Fieldhouse needs to be either torn down and rebuilt or a major renovation needs to take place.
I don't think that they have 27 year olds on the team. Maybe some 25 year olds if you count a two year LDS mission and a redshirt year.
He's got a point. Liberty's men's track team has won 12 straight Big South Outdoor Titles and 23 in the last 25 years. They had some strong individuals on the distance side in years past like Sam Chelenga (10k record holder) and Ednah Kurgat before she transferred to NM. In XC they've placed second to Campbell who has been a solid team in the region. They had a decent amount of athletes at USATF Jr. and USATF Nationals this year. And that excluded their All-American Hurdler who was injured. They even had a decathlete compete in NCACACs. They also have a large number of athletes competing in international competitions, including a few Olympians from smaller countries.
They will be switching to to the ASUN concerned which will be interesting to see if they continue their streak on the conference level.
Secondly, Liberty has about a hundred thousand online students. It is a fairly new University so they don't have much of an Alumni base yet. So their online school is where most of their income comes from. If you go on campus you will see most of this money has gone into the Athletic Department.

Mormons most definitely are not Protestants.

Seven years ago this was true. Not today. They tore down all the temporary dorms and academic halls that were built in the late 70s and early 80s and built permenant ones. Those old buildings were glorified trailers and pole barns but served the university for over 40 years. The new academic buildings are definitely built for the long haul. Library, religion, music, buisness, medical, and science all have state of the art buildings. And the new dorms are nice, too. To state that the money is all going to athletics is simply not true.
