When I first came up on Letsrun I was excited to be able to ask other people for seroius advice ad so on. People who have the same passion as me : running. Now it is almost impossible to start a seroius thread without getting so many mean comments and bad advice. If you look at the message board there are so many threads that are just blaming people . Why are you all so mean even if you dont know anything about the person? It is really anoing and just totally unnecessary. Why can´t Letsrun get back to what it was?
Some of it is the anonymous nature and that it is free. I pay for a subscription to a sports website (The Athletic) and the amount of rude comments is minimal. For one, you have to sign in through gmail or facebook and also you pay. Every now and then it gets testy, but on the whole it is a great discussion areas.
I think if you are asking for advice you are going to get "bad" advice and just need to accept that. You can disagree with the bad advice without name calling although that seems really hard for some people.
I sort of think that posting on the message board is like the old salt about having a rough day at work and coming home and kicking the dog. I think that for some people they vent their frustrations in life out on the message boards.
The mean comments certainly sting more than the anodyne ones or the ones that are point. It does not take long for the discussion to devolve into name calling or go so off track as to render the thread worthless.
Often I wonder why I check in here so often. Letsrun is the girlfriend (or boyfriend) that you just keep checking in on even though things went bad years ago.
