Which is the easier crime to solve?
- Cars have license plates so can be easily detected and stopped.
- Cars can only drive on roads. Bikes can be taken offroad or down alleyways to evade police.
- Police have dedicated units e.g CHiPs that focus on road crime.
- People get pulled over for other offences like speeding, dangerous driving, running a redlight that can lead to an arrest for a stolen car.
- Cars can be used in other crimes like ramraiding as well as a potential danger to pedestrians or property if driven by teenage joyriders.
Meanwhile ebikes have no easy identification system. How would a cop prove/disprove ownership if they stop someone? You steal 20 ebikes in San Francisco it's much easier to transport them all across the country and sell them on. Your local crime will not stay local.
