Hello all, coming to the board with a little pain that has been bothering me the past week or so. So last week I did a long run of 12 miles, which is a really big jump from my long run the week before (9 miles). I didn't feel any pain during the run, but later that evening my left hip flexor started to really tighten up. The next morning my hip flexor felt even worse, I could barely walk and it hurt to lift my leg up.
So i went on my run and the first couple of steps hurt like hell and I was limping but then i guess my hip flexor loosened up because i started to feel a lot better. In fact, my hip flexor felt way better after the run than it did before the run. So anyways, throughout the rest of the week, my hip flexor hurt like hell in the morning but got better when I started running. I hit my highest mileage last week (around 50) with the 12 mile long run, a hill workout, and a tempo run.
I took Sunday off, but then on Monday my hip flexor still felt terrible in the morning but felt better the longer I ran and after the run, and i also felt like terrible. I am assuming I felt terrible because of the high mileage week I ran previously, but why my hip flexor? Then on Tuesday, the same thing. And today the same as well.
This hip flexor thing is really annoying me because it is really preventing me from rapidly accelerating to fast speeds at the start of the run, which will be a problem once cross country meets start in late August. It is located at the front of my hip and it hurts to lift my leg up. Whenever i do lift my leg it hurts for a couple seconds, then goes completely away, but then when I put my leg back down it hurts again for a couple seconds. I will admit it has gotten a little better when lifting my leg up, but it still hurts a lot in the mornings and at the start of my runs, but then goes away during the run and feels way better after the run and throughout the rest of the day.
I have been stretching it, rolling it, and massaging it for the past two days but it has only helped it feel a little better. Could someone please help me figure out how to get rid of this annoying hip flexor thing, I have put in a lot of mileage this summer and I really want this to leave as xc meets are starting soon and this is my last year of running xc in high school.
