How many of you have coached at the high school level? Middle school? Club? JuCo? NAIA? NCAA Div I? Div II? Div III? Post-collegiate? International? How about in strength and conditioning? Any sports medicine professionals? Any field related advanced degrees out there? Have any of you compete after high school or after college?
How many of you, in the dark web of the running world, are sitting behind your keyboards lying, mostly to yourselves, as you type about things you have never experienced, studied, or have any understanding of? Or worse yet, you are not lying and are espousing bad practices in the name of 'it's how we did it back in my day'.
At the high school level, it is entirely possible to build large teams, promote health, wellness, and fitness, train champions, and help to prepare student-athletes for the next level(s), whatever that may represent to them individually. It is also possible to do this with ease while heeding the best available evidence and practices in the areas of biomechanics, exercise physiology, sports psychology, sports medicine, and nutrition, all without mentally and physically torturing children and young adults.
