With regard to amenities, there is a branch of the La Montañita Co-op there, so you can buy certified-organic produce and bulk grains, etc. Decent community library, but higher printing costs and more restrictions on meeting room use than in Albu(r)querque. A couple of locally owned restaurants are favorites to locals, visitors, and passers-through. The Oasis for Middle Eastern food is recommended. About two hours to Albuquerque to the east. Incredible scenery in between allows an appreciation of the vastness of western open space.
Mt. Taylor is closer to Grants, and the golf course in Grants has had a pretty good reputation for a small-town course. Trails and sticks within an hour from Gallup.
