Xc practice starts IN 2 DAYS, and I’m worried that I may be overtraining myself. Last week I hit my highest mileage ever of 50 miles. I built up to this slowly starting at 25 in early June and incorporated down weeks into my training as well. My peak mileage while training for track was only 40 miles, and I hit that mileage once during the base phase and I had a breakthrough last track season.
I figure 50 miles might be a good goal to hit for xc, and I was feeling great last week, but I am feeling immensely worn down my first Monday after the 50 mile week. I usually always rest on Sunday, so I am only running 6 days a week, and I always feel a little worn down after a rest day, but I still manage to do whatever workout is planned. I usually do long runs on mondays (today) and last week I ran my longest run ever of 12 miles.
Today I go out planning run 12 miles again but I feel like absolute garbage, and not just stiffness from taking a day off, but literal garbage. The dew point was pretty high but I have already acclimated to running in high dew points so it couldn’t be that. It was so frustrating, I normally run in between 7:30-6:30 pace for my long runs depending on the day (I mostly run 7-flat for my easy runs) but today I was struggling to even maintain a 7:30 pace. I wasn’t out of breath or anything, but my legs just wouldn’t move, they felt like cinder blocks running at a 7:30 pace!!! Wtf!!!
Maybe it’s because I’m not eating enough because I haven’t really increased my caloric intake at all despite running 10-15 miles more than usually per week. Could that be why?
Also, I’ve been struggling with some hip flexor pain in the front of my hip recently that developed after my 12 mile long run. It’s really bad in the morning and made me limp the first couple of strides for all of my runs last week and today’s run as well. After 10-15 seconds of running though, the pain seems to subside to a slight ache or no pain at all.
Xc practice starts this Wednesday and I’m worried I may have overtrained, what should I do? Should I take tomorrow off? Am I eating enough? I am currently eating about 2600-3200 calories and have been eating that same amount even when running only 35 miles per week. Keep in mind I am a light runner (5’7 112 pounds).
